State Track

Friday, the Braves track team competed at the 3A State meet on the campus of Wichita State University.

State Results:

Hadyn Bieling: 
•Triple Jump - 7th place, 41' 05"
•High Jump -  5th place, 6' 02" 

4 X 100m Relay:
•Hadyn Bieling, Ethan Burton, Jace Goodman, Ahmed Mansaray (Kahle Jones, alt) - 13th place, 45.43

Lakoddah Downes:

Friday, the Braves track team competed at the 3A Regional meet hosted by Osage City.

Hadyn Bieling broke the school high jump record with a 6' 5" jump, breaking Terry Powell's 1987 record.

State Track Success

Carlson, Day reach the podium for CGHS

Senior Lauren Carlson took four trips to the podium at the state track and field championships to finish her high school career.

She was third in the 100-meter dash (12.44) and fourth in the 200 (26.17) as an individual.

“I was happy to make it (to state) in all four events,” she said. “I haven’t been able to do that in ... four years.

Carlson was joined by Lauren Reddick, Sanaia Palmquist and Darian Julian in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, which finished third and fourth respectively. The goal for the sprint relay had been to break the school mark.

Carlson got to see her squad do it twice in less than two weeks, as it broke the school mark at the regional meet, then sliced even more time at state.

“We’d been wanting to break our school record all year,” Carlson said.

Julian also took 14th in the long jump, reaching 14-06.25, while Abbi Good was 16th at 14-05.5. Reddick cleared 4-08 in the high jump to take 13th.

On the boys side, Tucker Day was one step from the top of the podium twice on Saturday, finishing the 3A state runner up in both the discus and the shot put. His opening heave in the disc was a 164-11, which stood as the second highest mark among the field, while his last throw of the shot put was a 50-04.25.

His throw was the eighth-best in the disc among all classes.

Note: Competition was postponed twice and stretched into Sunday due to stormy weather.
