Monday, the Career and Tech Ed teachers, Counselor, Social Worker, and the Management and Leadership class hosted a Focus on Your Future Day for Council Grove High School students. During the morning, seven young professionals, most of whom graduated from CGHS, spoke about their careers, and how they made it to where they are now. They gave solid advice about how to plan for an engaging career. Students also had a chance to meet with a variety of university, college, and technical college representatives. The Freshmen spent the morning visiting Flint Hills Technical College in Emporia.
During the afternoon, everybody was divided into groups of about a dozen students each, and they completed activities at different stations. The activities were designed to encourage teamwork, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging.
The Career and Tech Ed department has been thinking about and planning some variation of a career fair for over a year. Through the local advisory committee, Professional Learning Community time, and collaboration with colleagues, Mrs. Bachura (Business), Mrs. Holden (FACS), Mr. Green (Ag), Kristen Gant (Counselor), and Jennifer Wilkens (Social Worker) gave students a chance to take a hard look at their futures and career options.
