A Little Audio for Everybody

Remember that CGHS Jr/Sr High has audio available. If you register and download the app, you can listen to a variety of books on your phone.

To the left, you can see a red RB digital icon right under the library search box. If you click on it, this page will open. As you can see, there's a little something for everybody.

The first time you sign up, click on "Register."

Ask [email protected] for USD 417's access code and fill in the information. 

Once you create an account, you will automatically go to a page that will encourage you to download a mobile app for your android or apple device or a desktop app for your computer. Feel free to set up your desktop computer and a device or two.

 

Once you have installed your App.

1.     Open it up.

2.     The first time you open it, it will ask you to select a region.  Select USA.

3.     Then log in using your account information.

The account you just created is only for USD 417 audiobooks. You cannot access other libraries' audiobooks with it.

To see what we have subscribed to, go to http://usd417morriscountyschools.rbdigital.com/#/discovery/eAudio. We also have access to all the books in the 6-12 English curriculum (with the exception of Great Gatsby, Goodbye Vietnam, Hitch, and Farewell to Manzanar. If you need those books in audio for a class, talk to me, and I will obtain them some other way.)

First Man (BIO Armstrong)

Horse Soldiers (958.104 STA) = 12 Strong

Mrs. Mahanay came in this morning to check out Horse Soldiers: the book that inspired the movie 12 Strong currently in movie theatres. Turns out that that lead character in the book (Mark Nutsch) and the movie (played by Chris Hemsworth) is based on a real life Kansas man with connections to people in the Council Grove area through ranching and rodeo.

Battles are fought and won by the hearts of soldiers, as the cavalry-charging Green Berets in Nicolai Fuglsig's 12 Strong prove. Dropped into Afghanistan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks and tasked with the responsibility of rallying local forces against the Taliban, the soldiers were forced to play diplomats as they broke down cultural barriers and earned the trust of a group of people who have spent most of their lives at war. The Marysville Advocate did a nice story on Mark Nutsch. He sounds like a remarkable man.

Ready Player One (FIC Cline): Ready for the Movie?

 

 

Jamie Keet is the author of a blog full of technology instruction called Teacher’s Tech. He has created many youtube videos that are short and full of information. One of them is called 7 Google Drive Tips & Tricks. In this video, Jamie explains how you can make Google Drive work better for you. Here are the seven tips included in the video:

Nuclear Energy Projects

Ms. Braun's Integrated Chemistry classes researched different aspects of nuclear energy before Christmas. They used library and web resources to research the answers to a variety of related questions, ultimately producing infographics to show what they learned, and sharing them with others in the class. Here is a sample of what they produced. Notice how they cited their sources and included the sources they used at the bottom of the infographics.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sad Library Story With a Happy Ending

Not too long ago, somebody brought in the library copy of Can You Keep a Secret by R. L. Stine (FIC Stine) and confessed that their dog had chewed on it. Since nobody wants to read a recently saliva drenched book, I poked around online to see if I could buy a replacement copy, and discovered that several Fear Street novels had been republished with updated covers.

Here they are.

Don't give them to your dogs.
